Manila: The number of houses damaged by the effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong in late July has climbed to 108,358, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday. In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC detailed that out of the total number of damaged houses, 97,508 were classified as "partially damaged" and 10,850 as "totally damaged."
According to Philippines News Agency, Region 1 (Ilocos Region) has the most number of damaged houses at 101,849, with 92,108 classified as "partially damaged" and 9,831 as "totally damaged." The estimated cost of damaged houses stands at PHP6,256,375, as per the NDRRMC report.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano stated that all possible assistance is being provided to families whose homes were damaged by the inclement weather. When questioned about the relocation aspect, Mariano acknowledged that it is "always part of the plan" for those severely affected and residing in the most hazardous areas. However, he noted there are limitations, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is currently aiding those with repairable houses.
Mariano also mentioned that the OCD is providing assistance in the form of shelter repair kits. The NDRRMC report highlighted that an estimated PHP1,380,614,810.83 in assistance has already been extended to the affected families, which number 2,663,704 as of Monday.
