Bacolod city: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has processed the applications of 78,313 new voters in Negros Occidental during the registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from August 1 to 10.
According to Philippines News Agency, data released by the Comelec-Negros Occidental showed that of the total registrants, 40,642 are females, while 37,671 are males.
Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria mentioned in a radio interview that the 10-day registration had a notable turnout in Negros Occidental. He observed that a significant portion of those registering were young people, estimating that 90 to 95 percent of the registrants were youth. Ananoria expressed satisfaction at witnessing the youth's political awareness and eagerness to participate in future elections.
In the urbanized Bacolod City, 6,312 individuals registered. The first district saw 10,902 new voter applications, with Calatrava accounting for 2,874, Don Salvador Benedicto 1,081, Toboso 1,951, Escalante City 2,280, and San Carlos City 2,716.
The second district received 10,503 registration applications, including 1,371 in Manapla, 5,671 in Cadiz City, and 3,461 in Sagay City. In the third district, 10,464 new voters were listed, with E.B. Magalona registering 1,712, Murcia 2,540, Talisay City 1,742, Silay City 1,871, and Victorias City 2,599.
The fourth district recorded 10,930 registrants, with Pontevedra having 1,610, Pulupandan 816, San Enrique 1,049, Valladolid 1,614, Bago City 3,658, and La Carlota 2,183. The fifth district saw 14,492 new registrants, including 2,375 in Binalbagan, 2,884 in Hinigaran, 2,188 in Isabela, 1,649 in La Castellana, 1,561 in Moises Padilla, and 3,835 in Himamaylan City.
In the sixth district, 14,710 individuals registered, with 590 in Candoni, 1,883 in Cauayan, 1,968 in Hinoba-an, 1,529 in Ilog, 5,187 in Kabankalan City, and 3,553 in Sipalay City.
