UNICEF and JICA Forge Partnership to Enhance Education in Laos

Vientiane: UNICEF Lao PDR and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have formalized a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to bolster collaboration in the education sector and aid the Government of Laos in advancing its education objectives. According to Lao News Agency, the signing ceremony was attended by key figures including Sanjay Wijesekera, UNICEF Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific; Ms Yuko Mitsui, Senior Vice President of JICA; and Dr Lavanh Vongkhamsane, Director General of the Cabinet, Ministry of Education and Sports. The MoC is set to enhance cooperation between UNICEF and JICA by focusing on improving learning outcomes, fortifying education systems, and supporting early childhood education. The agreement also aims to facilitate the mobilisation of resources for the education sector, thereby aiding the Government of Laos in its mission to improve the quality and accessibility of education nationwide. This collaboration seeks to address significant education priorities and contribu te to better learning opportunities and outcomes for children in Laos. Through this strengthened partnership, UNICEF and JICA reaffirm their commitment to working closely with the Government of Laos to support and enhance the country's educational landscape.
