Vientiane:A recent meeting was held to review the operational performance of the Xekong Thermal Power Project in Laos. The session was chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Malaithong Kommasith, and was attended by representatives from relevant government agencies, as well as officials from Xekong, Oudomxay, Champasak, and Attapeu provinces, along with the project company.
According to Lao News Agency, the participants assessed the project's progress and discussed challenges faced by various stakeholders. The aim was to identify practical solutions and enhance coordination among the involved parties.
The review is part of the coordination requirements outlined in the 2025 Concession Agreement between the government and Xekong Thermal Power Plant Company Limited (XTPPL). It follows decisions made by the Joint Technical Committee during its consultations and problem-solving meetings. The discussions also build on a Ministry of Industry and Commerce meeting held on September 29, 2026, which addressed project-related matters.
During the meeting, representatives from the provinces and the project company provided updates and feedback to ensure that decisions are informed by comprehensive information and reflect actual conditions. The meeting's goal was to develop a common understanding of outstanding issues, define clear corrective measures, and strengthen cooperation among the government, local authorities, and the project company to ensure future operations comply with relevant laws and regulations and are subject to proper monitoring and evaluation.
