Hong Kong:Laos has successfully issued a US$500 million sovereign bond on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Santiphab Phomvihane led a government delegation at a ceremony on October 29 to mark the bond's listing.

According to Lao News Agency, the bond issuance attracted demand 2.9 times the target amount, garnering commitments from 86 institutional investors across various regions including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the United States. This significant interest reflects the global investor community's confidence in Laos' economic stabilization efforts, debt management, and fiscal policies.

The listing aims to expand Laos' international investor base and diversify its medium-term financing sources. It is expected to provide the government with greater flexibility in managing public debt, focusing on borrowing costs, risk management, and debt sustainability.

Furthermore, the bond establishes an international pricing benchmark for future issuances by Lao public entities, including state-owned enterprises. It also supports enhanced transparency and strengthens the country's credibility in international financial markets. The Ministry of Finance stated that the transaction underscores the government's dedication to sound macroeconomic management, financial transparency, and fulfilling its international debt obligations.
