Vientiane: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), in conjunction with the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, has announced a two-day national mourning period in honor of Xaysomphone Phomvihane, the President of the National Assembly of Laos, who passed away on August 8 at the age of 70.
According to Lao News Agency, Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane was a pivotal figure in the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, contributing significantly to both the national defense and the overall development of Laos. His work also strengthened the strategic ties and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, an achievement deeply acknowledged in the communiqu©.
The announcement emphasized that his death represents a substantial loss, not only to Laos but also to the diplomatic and strategic relations between the two nations. In recognition of the special bond shared by Vietnam and Laos, the CPV Central Committee and other governmental bodies declared the national mourning period from August 10 to 11.
During this mourning period, all offices and agencies across Vietnam, as well as Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, are instructed to fly flags at half-mast with mourning ribbons. Additionally, public entertainment and recreational activities are to be suspended to honor the late leader's legacy and his contributions to fostering the Vietnam-Laos relationship.
