Senior Leaders and Citizens Pay Last Respects to Former National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane

Vientiane: Senior Party and State leaders, along with representatives from various sectors, gathered in Vientiane on August 9, 2026, to lay floral wreaths and pay their respects to Xaysomphone Phomvihane, a prominent Member of the Politburo of the Party Central Committee and President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR.

According to Lao News Agency, the floral tribute ceremony was a significant occasion for Party and State leaders, as well as citizens from different societal sectors, to express their gratitude and respect for Mr. Xaysomphone. His dedication to the revolutionary cause and his efforts in legislative affairs and national development were profoundly recognized during the event.

The Party Central Committee, led by Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR, was the first delegation to pay tribute. Following them were the family of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly led by Sounthone Xayachack, and the Government delegation led by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The Phomvihane family, led by Santiphap Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, also paid their respects, alongside the Siphandone family led by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. Additionally, a delegation from the Party Central Committee Office, led by Phet Phomphiphak, participated in the ceremony.

Other notable delegations included the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Development, led by Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, and a family delegation of Khamphan Phommathat, Minister of Justice. The Central Propaganda and Training Committee of the Party, led by Khamphan Pheuyavong, and the Office of the Prime Minister also laid floral wreaths.

Throughout the ceremony, participants from ministries, central agencies, organisations, families of senior leaders, and various businesses took turns in paying their respects. This floral tribute ceremony was a part of the official mourning activities, reflecting the respect and appreciation of the Lao Party, State, and people for Xaysomphone Phomvihane's longstanding contributions to the nation.
