Luang Prabang:The meeting was co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, and his counterpart from Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
According to Lao News Agency, the two countries reviewed the implementation of the outcomes from the previous Joint Commission Meeting and explored further cooperation in various sectors including politics, security, trade, and investment. They also discussed issues related to connectivity, tourism, energy, agriculture, public health, education, and environmental protection.
Both nations agreed to enhance cooperation in maintaining border security and order, advancing land and water boundary demarcation, and combating transnational crime, including drug trafficking, cybercrime, and human trafficking.
The discussions also focused on expanding trade and investment opportunities, supporting private-sector cooperation and small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting digital economic development, and improving economic connectivity. Key infrastructure projects such as linking the Laos-China Railway with Thailand’s railway network, the Xieng Maen-Luang Prabang Mekong Bridge, and the proposed 6th and 7th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridges were highlighted.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular exchanges between central and local authorities and to stronger cooperation under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Ministers adopted the Minutes of the 23rd Lao-Thai Joint Commission Meeting. They also witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent to establish a friendly city relationship between Luang Prabang Province in Laos and Nan Province in Thailand. Additionally, documents concerning the Lao-Thai border work action plan and the Xieng Maen-Luang Prabang Bridge project were exchanged.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Ministers and their delegations inspected the site proposed for the bridge and visited Wat Xieng Thong in Luang Prabang.
