Lao and Thai Officials Prepare for Upcoming Joint Commission Meeting


Luang Prabang:Senior officials from Laos and Thailand convened to prepare for the 23rd Joint Commission (JC) meeting, with the gathering co-chaired by Mr. Anoupharb Vongnorkeo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, and Ms. Eksiri Pintaruji, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Delegations from both countries participated in the discussions.



According to Lao News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing both substantive and logistical arrangements for the forthcoming JC meeting. Officials also assessed the implementation of the Minutes from the 22nd Lao-Thai Joint Commission Meeting, which occurred in 2021.



Bilateral cooperation between Laos and Thailand has advanced over the past five years, fostering stronger relations and good-neighbourly cooperation. The two sides explored future cooperation plans and worked towards finalizing the Minutes of the 23rd Joint Commission Meeting, a document expected to enhance bilateral cooperation and advance the Strategic Partnership for Growth and Sustainable Development.



The discussions were characterized by an open and constructive atmosphere, with both parties exchanging views and seeking common ground on various cooperation areas.



Prior to the main meeting, three sub-working groups met on October 1 to review progress and prepare recommendations for future cooperation. These groups focused on political and security affairs, economic cooperation, and social and development affairs, including cultural and social cooperation. They also reviewed the implementation of the 22nd JC meeting’s agreements and discussed priority areas for future cooperation.
