Manila: Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Gorio maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 135 kph, the weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Monday. The STS continues to move 25 kph westward over the Philippine Sea, and was located 1,170 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon as of 10 a.m.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that Gorio is unlikely to affect the country in the next three days. However, it will cause moderate to rough seas over the coastal waters of extreme northern Luzon.

PAGASA has advised mariners of motorboats and similarly sized vessels to take precautionary measures while venturing out to the sea. Gorio could possibly reach the typhoon category in the next 12 hours.

The cyclone is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday night, PAGASA said.
