Vientiane: Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane, a prominent figure in the political landscape of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR), has held numerous influential positions throughout his career, significantly impacting national governance and socio-economic development. Born on December 12, 1956, in Na Mao Village, Viengxay District, Houaphanh Province, Phomvihane was the son of President Kaysone Phomvihane and Mrs. Thongvin Phomvihane, descending from a family of revolutionary cadres.

According to Lao News Agency, Phomvihane's early education took him to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the People's Republic of China, where he pursued primary and secondary education. His academic journey continued in Vietnam and the Soviet Union, ultimately leading to a doctoral degree in Political Economy from the Academy of Social Sciences of the Soviet Union. His early career included a lecturing position at the National Institute of Politics and Public Administration in Vientiane Capital.

Phomvihane's extensive career in Party and State affairs began in the late 1980s when he worked at the Savannakhet Provincial Office. He quickly ascended to significant roles such as Deputy Governor of Savannakhet Province and Head of the Department of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations. From 1993 to 1995, he served as Secretary of the Savannakhet Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Savannakhet Province, marking his rising influence in regional governance.

In the mid-1990s, Phomvihane's political career expanded to the national stage, serving as Minister of Finance from 1995 to 1997. He then transitioned to legislative functions, becoming a Member of the National Assembly and holding various leadership roles, including Vice President of the National Assembly and Chair of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee. His tenure saw him contributing to legislative affairs and foreign relations, reflecting his versatility in governmental functions.

From 2016 to 2020, Phomvihane was President of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Development, enhancing his influence over national development initiatives. His commitment to public service was further solidified when he was elected President of the National Assembly for the 10th term in March 2026, continuing his legacy in the political realm.

Throughout his career, Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane consistently played a pivotal role in shaping the political and economic landscape of Lao PDR, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the Party and State. His contributions remain integral to the country's governance and socio-economic progress.
