Iloilo city: The city government has announced its support for the investigation into contractors involved in flood control projects after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. identified two major contractors overseeing significant projects in the city.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Raisa Tre±as expressed her full backing of the ongoing probe initiated by President Marcos Jr. into these contractors and their projects. She assured that the Iloilo City government, under her administration, will fully cooperate and provide all necessary information to facilitate the investigation.
Tre±as highlighted that St. Timothy Construction Corp. and Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp. are the primary contractors for projects managed by the Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways. A status report from the ICDEO to her office indicated that St. Timothy Construction Corp. secured projects totaling PHP425 million.
Presently, only sections 1 and 2 of a flood mitigation structure in the Lapuz district, valued at PHP300 million, are under construction. Another project worth PHP125 million was suspended in June 2025 due to obstructions, with no specific address provided.
Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp. is responsible for section 2 of the Iloilo Comprehensive Flood Mitigation Project, with a budget of PHP150 million and a completion target of March 2026. However, the report did not specify the project's location.
Mayor Tre±as remarked that these projects have either failed to function, exacerbated flooding, or, in some instances, barely exist. She emphasized that flooding has repeatedly caused severe distress to communities, especially during heavy rains and typhoons. She stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, asserting that the residents of Iloilo City deserve to know about any delays, deficiencies, or misuse of public funds, and that those accountable must face consequences without bias.
