Geneva:The Ministry of Public Security has put forward a proposal to the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly for the formal listing of prohibited narcotics and controlled chemical substances.
According to Lao News Agency, Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany, the Minister of Public Security, highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by the emergence of new narcotic substances that are not yet defined under current laws. This proposal is part of the government’s efforts to address these challenges by expanding clauses in the existing Law on Narcotics.
The proposed changes aim to provide a more robust legal foundation, elevating the list of prohibited substances from a government decision to a National Assembly Resolution. This shift is expected to enhance enforcement consistency and efficiency, aiding in the reduction of drug-related problems and supporting national development goals.
The proposal aligns with the National Plan on Drug Prevention and Control and seeks to improve coordination among relevant sectors, thereby strengthening legal responses to drug-related offences.
