Vientiane:Authorities in Vientiane have destroyed 440 kilograms of illegally imported animal and fishery products. The action took place on September 22 after it was discovered that the shipment’s documentation was incomplete and invalid.
According to Lao News Agency, the destruction ceremony was held at the Dongphosy Animal Quarantine Checkpoint, organized by the Vientiane Department of Agriculture and Environment. The event was attended by Mr. Sengphet Chanthasen, Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Division, alongside other relevant officials.
The products were initially detected on September 21 during an inspection at the First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge International Checkpoint. Veterinary officials, customs officers, and immigration police coordinated to inspect a van with Vientiane license plate No. 0663, which was found carrying 240 kilograms of chicken offal, 100 kilograms of sour pork sausage, 80 kilograms of beef omasum, and 20 kilograms of minced chicken meat.
Officials determined that the import documents accompanying the products were incomplete and non-compliant with regulations. Subsequently, the seized products were transported to the Dongphosy Animal Quarantine Checkpoint for destruction.
This action is part of ongoing efforts by authorities to enhance inspections and control the movement of animal products into the Lao PDR, aiming to prevent illegal imports that could threaten public health and livestock.
