Beijing:Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklai Sivilay is leading a Lao delegation at the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2026 in Beijing, China, from September 21-24.
According to Lao News Agency, the forum gathers transport ministers, UN officials, ambassadors, and other representatives to exchange experiences and discuss strategies for advancing sustainable, safe, and efficient transport systems.
The focus of the meeting is on strengthening global connectivity, supporting the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and promoting the Decade of Sustainable Transport Action Plan 2026-2035. Discussions include the development of green transport and the application of artificial intelligence in the transport sector.
Key topics include improving the safety, resilience, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of transport systems, facilitating trade, investment, and cross-border transport, and expanding access to affordable, safe, and inclusive transport infrastructure.
The forum also explores the role of transport in supporting local communities, industrial development, and efforts to reduce development gaps and improve living standards. The participation of the Lao PDR provides an opportunity to exchange experiences with international partners and explore modernizing the country’s transport sector, strengthening regional connectivity, and promoting more sustainable transport development.
