Khammouane:A groundbreaking ceremony took place in Phonesaat village, Mahaxay district, for the construction of the Khammouane provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minority Students, supported by a non-refundable grant from the Vietnamese Government to Laos.
According to Lao News Agency, the project underscores the commitment of the Parties and States of both countries to enhance education and human resources development in remote and ethnic minority areas of Laos.
The school will be constructed on a 37,268 square meter site with a total investment of 183.2 billion VND (7.04 million USD). This includes 179.75 billion VND from Vietnam and 3.45 billion VND from Laos. It will feature 28 fully equipped classrooms, accommodating 1,700 to 2,000 students from ethnic groups in five eastern districts of Khammouane province: Mahaxay, Yomalath, Nakai, Boualapha, and Xaybouathong.
PSC Trading Investment Co., Ltd. is tasked with construction and aims to complete the project by August 30, 2028, for the 2028-2029 academic year. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam’s Quang Tri province, confirmed the completion of all preparatory work.
Khammouane province has cleared the site of unexploded ordnance and issued the necessary construction permits. Manyen Khinsamone, Vice Chairman of the Khammouane provincial Administration Committee, expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support and highlighted the project’s role in improving educational access and quality for local ethnic communities.
He emphasized the project’s significance as a symbol of the strong friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, as well as between Quang Tri and Khammouane provinces. He urged project managers and contractors to ensure timely and quality completion, adhering to safety standards. The event marks a significant advancement in educational cooperation between the two regions, reinforcing bilateral ties.
