Vientiane:A 10-kilometre Mini Marathon and 5-kilometre Fun Run were organized by the National Assembly in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in the Lao PDR. Held in Vientiane on September 20, the event marked the 35th anniversary of the Lao Constitution and the 65th anniversary of Lao-Chinese diplomatic relations. It also aimed to raise funds for those affected by natural disasters.
According to Lao News Agency, the event was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the Acting President of the National Assembly, and the Chinese Ambassador to Laos. Other participants included senior and former leaders, government officials, civil servants, foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations, businesses, and members of the public.
Mr. Kongkeo Xaysongkham, Vice President of the National Assembly, stated that the event provided an opportunity to commemorate significant national and bilateral milestones while promoting physical fitness and solidarity. He emphasized the event’s role in enhancing the sports movement and promoting Laos as a destination for tourism and related activities.
The Mini Marathon and Fun Run also served as a charity initiative to support disaster-affected Lao people. Financial assistance, materials, and equipment for disaster relief efforts were contributed by domestic and international businesses and organizations.
Mr. Kongkeo highlighted the enduring friendship and cooperation between Laos and China, noting that the event symbolized the comprehensive strategic partnership and ongoing cooperation under the ‘Four Good’ spirit. This spirit aims to build a strong and lasting Laos-China community with a shared future.
On the 35th anniversary of the Constitution, Mr. Kongkeo remarked that it has been a fundamental legal basis for governance and social administration, aiding in the development of a law-governed state that serves the people’s interests.
The event successfully brought together participants from diverse sectors, combining sport, public solidarity, and charitable activities to celebrate the milestone anniversaries and reinforce the friendship and cooperation between Laos and China.
