Vietnamese and Lao Prime Ministers Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation at P4G Summit

Hanoi: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a working meeting with his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone on the sidelines of the ongoing fourth Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Hanoi.



According to Lao News Agency, PM Siphandone highlighted the significance of this year’s summit, acknowledging Vietnam’s proactive role and contribution to global efforts in promoting green growth and sustainable development. PM Chinh expressed optimism that the summit would continue to serve as a platform for promoting cooperation initiatives for sustainable growth, with valuable input from the Lao and other international delegations.



Both leaders discussed the strong bilateral relations between Vietnam and Laos, emphasizing the stable and effective development across various areas. They reiterated the importance of political ties reinforced through high-level visits and exchanges.



The two prime ministers agreed to direct relevant ministries and agencies to implement outcomes from recent high-level meetings, including the sessions between the two Politburos and the Vietnam-Laos intergovernmental committee. They committed to strengthening bilateral political ties and cooperation in defense-security to maintain social order and safety.



Economic collaboration was also a key focus, with both leaders agreeing to enhance trade and investment to achieve a bilateral trade target of 5 billion USD. They discussed major Vietnamese investment projects in Laos and emphasized greater integration of their economies, particularly in infrastructure, transport, investment, and tourism. Further cooperation will be pursued in education, culture, science, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.



PM Siphandone praised Vietnam’s engagement with the US on reciprocal tariff matters. Both prime ministers stressed the importance of maintaining regional peace, security, and stability, and agreed to continue supporting each other at international and regional platforms such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, focusing on strengthening trilateral ties among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
