Hanoi:Vietnam and Laos have agreed to continue enhancing the quality of professional training for Lao propaganda and training officials. The effort includes expanding exchanges of young officials and relevant personnel in alignment with the conditions of both countries.
According to Lao News Agency, Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for Publicity, held discussions with Sakhone Phommalath, Deputy Head of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Commission for Propaganda and Training. The meeting took place in Hanoi on September 29 during the Lao delegation’s working visit to Vietnam.
Sakhone Phommalath reviewed the cooperation between the two commissions from 2022 to 2026, highlighting successful promotion of information regarding the achievements of both Parties and States, as well as the tradition of solidarity between the two nations. Regular dissemination of information about Vietnam-Laos cooperation has raised public
awareness of the close friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the countries.
Phan Xuan Thuy explained that the Commission for Publicity now focuses on two strategic advisory functions for the Party: information and education, with an emphasis on political, ideological, and ethical affairs. This includes guidance for the press and publishing sector, theoretical research, and public opinion orientation.
The two commissions have maintained exchanges and shared experiences in information and education. Cooperation has expanded at the local level, especially among the nine Vietnamese localities sharing a border with Laos, all of which have signed cooperation agreements covering communications and ideological work.
The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics plays a pivotal role in training Lao officials, having organized an annual professional training course for LPRP officials. From 2023 to 2026, 70 Lao officials participated in these courses, focusing on political and theoretic
al knowledge and related skills.
Looking ahead, Thuy proposed that the commissions finalize a draft cooperation agreement for 2027-2031. This agreement should be prepared for signing in 2027, coinciding with important anniversaries in bilateral relations. He also emphasized the importance of experience sharing in key areas and addressing emerging issues related to digital transformation and science and technology in communications and ideological work.
