President Thongloun Sisoulith Welcomes Cambodian Prime Minister’s Condolence Visit

Vientiane: Party General Secretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith received a courtesy visit from Samdech Hun Manet, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party and Prime Minister of Cambodia, in Vientiane on the afternoon of April 5, 2025. The visit was part of Hun Manet's trip to pay tribute and lay a wreath in remembrance of the late General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and former State President, who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102. According to Lao News Agency, President Thongloun expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to Samdech Hun Manet for leading a high-level Cambodian delegation to attend the tribute ceremony for the late General Khamtay Siphandone. He emphasized that this gesture reflects the profound sympathy extended to the Party, State, and multiethnic Lao people and highlights the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two countries. The visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted bonds of bro therhood between Laos and Cambodia, as well as the strategic, comprehensive, and enduring partnership between the two Parties, States, and peoples of both nations. President Thongloun also thanked the Cambodian Party, State, and people for their constant support and assistance to Laos across various sectors. Samdech Hun Manet conveyed a message of condolence from Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party, to President Thongloun Sisoulith. On behalf of the Cambodian Party, Government, and people, he expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the passing of General Khamtay Siphandone, a founding leader of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and a central figure in the Party's Central Committee. He recognized General Khamtay Siphandone as a patriot, revolutionary, and outstanding leader of the Party and the nation, deeply respected and beloved by the multi-ethnic Lao people. Throughout his life, General Khamtay devoted his intellect and strength to the revolutionary cause, the d evelopment of the country, and improving the livelihoods of the Lao people. The passing of Comrade General Khamtay Siphandone constitutes a tremendous loss for the Party, State, and people of Laos, as well as for the friendship between Cambodia and Laos. Samdech Hun Manet expressed his belief that the Lao Party, State, people, and the Siphandone family will overcome this great sorrow and continue to carry forward the cause of national development, achieving greater prosperity.
