Hanoi: The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a flood watch for 10-11 August 2026, warning residents in areas along major rivers and low-lying communities to remain vigilant as water levels continue to rise.
According to Lao News Agency, the department's daily river-level monitoring on 10 August indicated that water levels at several stations along the Mekong River are nearing their warning thresholds. At the Vientiane Km 4 Station, the Mekong River was measured at 11.11 metres, just 0.39 metres below the warning level of 11.50 metres. The flood level at this station is 12.50 metres.
At the Thakhek Station, the river reached 12.92 metres, only 0.08 metres below the warning level of 13.00 metres, with a flood level of 14.00 metres. Further south, at the Pakse Station, the Mekong River stood at 10.82 metres, which is 0.18 metres below the warning level of 11.00 metres. The flood level at this station is 12.00 metres.
The Xe Don River is also under close observation. At the Suwannakhili Station, the water level reached 10.28 metres, surpassing the warning level of 10.00 metres but still 0.72 metres below the flood level of 11.00 metres.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has urged people of all ethnic groups, local authorities, and organisations living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to exercise caution and closely monitor the situation. The department warned that continued rainfall over several consecutive days could further raise river levels and increase the risk of flooding and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
Residents are advised to stay informed by regularly following weather forecasts and river-level updates issued by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and to remain prepared for possible changes in conditions.
