Khammouane:Lao Vice President Viengthong Siphandone has called for increased efforts in the completion of four significant development projects in Khammouane Province. During her inspection on October 25, 2026, she emphasized the need for authorities and contractors to expedite construction, overcome obstacles, and adhere to project deadlines.

According to Lao News Agency, Vice President Siphandone, along with provincial leaders including Provincial Party Secretary Xaysana Khotphouthone, assessed the status of the President Kaysone Phomvihane Monument upgrade, a 230-kilovolt transmission line and substation, an ethnic boarding school, and improvements to National Route 12.

The monument's upgrade, with a budget of 4 billion kip, is currently 10% complete and is projected to be finished by April 2027. The transmission line project has reached 26.5% completion, with the substation at 47.2%. The ethnic boarding school, primarily funded by the Vietnamese Government, aims for completion before August 2028. Meanwhile, the 147.5-kilometre National Route 12 project has achieved 34.73% progress, just shy of its 35.31% target.

Challenges affecting road construction include heavy rainfall, rising fuel and material costs, and damage from overloaded trucks, with daily traffic of 1,300-1,500 trucks reported. Vice President Siphandone urged provincial authorities to enhance coordination, enforce vehicle weight limits, and provide necessary support to ensure the timely completion of these projects.
