Vientiane:The Extraordinary Plenary Session of the 12th Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party commenced at the Party Central Committee Office on September 28, 2026. The session is presided over by General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao PDR.
According to Lao News Agency, the five-day session, which runs from September 28 to October 2, is taking place against a backdrop of global economic and geopolitical uncertainties, natural disasters, and other challenges impacting peace, stability, and development.
The meeting is set to tackle domestic issues, such as economic and financial difficulties, flooding, the outbreak of African Swine Fever, illegal resource extraction, land encroachment, telecommunications scams, illicit firearms, vehicle smuggling, drug trafficking, and other social challenges that affect communities and economic activities.
During the session, reports will be reviewed and guidance provided on key documents for implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress. Major agenda items include restructuring economic sectors to build an independent and self-reliant economy, improving human resource development to meet national needs, and developing policies to strengthen the role of intellectuals.
The Government is expected to report on measures to combat vehicle smuggling and illegal mineral resource extraction, while the Central Committee will consider other significant state affairs.
In his opening remarks, General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith urged Central Committee members to fulfill their political responsibilities, analyze the issues diligently, and offer objective and constructive opinions. He emphasized the necessity of strengthening inner-Party democracy and developing practical solutions to effectively implement the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.
