Hanoi: The Lao-German Technical College (LGTC) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to waive tuition and other fees for female students enrolling in all majors for the 2026-2027 academic year. This decision aims to enhance women's access to vocational education, especially in technical and industrial domains.

According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Souliya Paxai, the Director of LGTC, highlighted the college's dedication to expanding educational opportunities. Established in 1964, LGTC currently provides 15 vocational majors across five departments and collaborates with over 100 enterprises through its dual-education programme. In the last academic year, the college had an enrollment of 1,428 students, including 67 women, and successfully graduated 486 students.

The upcoming academic year sees the college targeting the admission of over 800 new students, with over 1,000 applications submitted by August 26. Specifically, 604 applicants have registered for entrance exams in automotive technology and heavy machinery, competing for 300 available spots. Another 434 applicants have applied for 13 different certificate and higher diploma programmes.

The fee waiver for female applicants remains available, with applications open until mid-September. Classes for returning students are scheduled to commence on September 7, while first-year students will begin their studies on October 5, 2026. Mr. Souliya has encouraged school graduates to view vocational education as a viable route to secure and long-term employment.
