Sanamxay: A grant signing ceremony for the construction of Saysomsouk Secondary School in Sanamxay District, Attapeu Province, took place at the Attapeu Provincial Administration Office. The initiative is part of Japan's Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) and is valued at more than USD 97,000.
According to Lao News Agency, the agreement was signed by Mr Koizumi Tsutomu, the Ambassador of Japan to Laos, and Mr Phavandy Sonthavy, the Head of the Sanamxay District Education and Sports Office. The ceremony was witnessed by Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany, the Governor of Attapeu Province, along with delegations from both sides.
Ambassador Koizumi highlighted that Japan's support aims to address the district's lack of essential educational infrastructure by constructing the Saysomsouk Secondary School. The project seeks to provide enhanced teaching and learning facilities, creating a safer and more conducive environment for students.
Lieutenant General Vanthong expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan, acknowledging Japan's longstanding development assistance to the Lao PDR, particularly through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He emphasized that Attapeu Province has greatly benefited from various projects, especially in education and public health, which have significantly aided local infrastructure development.
He further noted that in 2025, the Japanese Government continued its support with funding for the Saysomsouk Secondary School building, recognising the importance of strengthening the education sector to meet human resource needs in Sanamxay District. He added that the project, upon completion, will contribute to the province's socio-economic development and symbolize the strong and enduring friendship between Laos and Japan.
