Japan Provides Grant for Clean Water Project in Xiengkhuang

Vientiane: The Government of Japan has provided more than US$40,000 in grant assistance for the construction of a clean drinking water system in Phaxay District, Xiengkhuang Province, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

According to Lao News Agency, the grant agreement was signed on August 24, 2026, by Japanese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Koizumi Tsutomu and Mr. Yeng Mua, Director of the Phaxay District Health Office. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Mr. Phouvong Ounkhamsene, Secretary of the Xiengkhuang Provincial Party Committee, along with provincial authorities.

Ambassador Koizumi stated that the project would directly address local needs and improve access to safe drinking water, especially for residents in remote areas. He highlighted that this project marks the 52nd GGP initiative supported by Japan in Laos, raising the total assistance under the program to over US$2.9 million.

He encouraged local authorities and communities to collaborate closely to ensure the project is completed efficiently, maintaining high construction standards and quality. The GGP aims to support small-scale projects that directly benefit local communities and enhance basic living conditions in developing countries.
