Can Tho and Lao Localities Enhance Cooperation in Human Resources Development

Can Tho:The city of Can Tho and various localities in Laos are exploring opportunities to deepen their cooperation in several areas, including high-quality human resources development, scientific research, technology transfer, and high-tech agriculture and aquaculture.

According to Lao News Agency, these topics were the focal point of a recent meeting held at Can Tho University. The meeting brought together Can Tho leaders and a delegation of officials from the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, at the deputy ministerial level and equivalent positions. This event was part of a field study and thematic exchange program jointly organized by the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Commission for Organisation and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, emphasized the importance of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. He highlighted that exchanges in Party building, leadership, and management training are crucial for enhancing the political foundation of bilateral relations and implementing high-level cooperation strategies.

Following Can Tho's administrative reorganisation in July 2025, the city has embarked on a new developmental phase. With a population of approximately 4.2 million and an area of about 6,360 sq.km, Can Tho aims to reinforce its status as a key economic, educational, commercial, and logistics hub in the Mekong Delta. The city is focusing on developing a skilled workforce to support sustainable growth, leveraging its strengths in agriculture, aquaculture, and processing industries.

During the meeting, Keovisouk Solaphom, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Minister of Technology and Communications of Laos, commended Can Tho's socio-economic progress and its educational reforms. Both sides expressed a commitment to fostering delegation exchanges and expanding cooperative efforts between Can Tho and Lao ministries, sectors, and localities.

After the meeting, the Lao delegation visited Can Tho University's College of Aquaculture and Fisheries to learn about high-tech aquaculture models. Earlier, they paid tribute to the Hung Kings at the Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho and explored an exhibition of Vietnamese historical documents and cultural heritage.
