Vientiane:Senior information officials from ASEAN member states convened in Vientiane on September 28, 2026, to commence the 27th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information’s Sub-Committee on Information. The meeting’s focus was on digital transformation, misinformation, and enhancing regional media cooperation.
According to Lao News Agency, Mr. Somsavath Phongsa, Director General of the Media Department under the Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee, highlighted the dual impact of rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, social media, and other communication technologies. While these advancements offer new opportunities, they also pose increased challenges related to misinformation and disinformation.
Mr. Phongsa emphasized the necessity for strengthened regional collaboration to address these challenges and to promote the dissemination of reliable, high-quality information in the digital age. The meeting serves as a platform to evaluate ongoing ASEAN information and media projects and to discuss priorities for the ASEAN Cooperation in Information and Media Sector for the years 2026 to 2035.
