Infrastructure Developments Enhance Tourism in Khong District

Taiz:Khong District The Khong district has experienced a significant increase in tourism, welcoming 53,317 domestic tourists and 61,239 international visitors. Phaivanh Sorkhongshin, head of the Khong District Culture and Tourism Office, provided these figures.

According to Lao News Agency, the district's ability to accommodate this growing number of visitors is supported by 97 accommodation establishments, including 16 hotels, 80 guesthouses, and one resort, alongside 20 restaurants. Tourist transport services in the district feature 205 boats, 18 vehicles operating on Don Det and Don Khone, as well as 10 electric vehicles.

The growth in tourism is partly attributed to improvements in tourism infrastructure, funded by the Asian Development Bank's Second Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project, completed in 2023. The project facilitated the construction of a concrete road at the entrance to Nakasang, enhancements to Nakasang port, a road linking Don Det and Don Khone, and upgrades to other tourist sites.

These infrastructure improvements have eased travel for residents and visitors, facilitated the transport of goods, and improved access to tourist attractions. They have also generated employment opportunities and increased tourism-related income for local communities.

Khong district boasts 41 natural, historical, and cultural attractions, including 20 natural sites, seven historical sites, and 14 cultural sites. Renowned destinations in the region include Khone Phapheng and Somphamit waterfalls. In addition to sightseeing, tourists can explore the islands by bicycle, kayak, canoe, or boat, cross local bridges, and experience the area's natural beauty and traditional lifestyle.
