Road Closure Near Xay Railway Station Announced for 75 Days

Xay:A road section between Ban Thin and Ban Na Lae in Xay District, Oudomxay Province, will be temporarily closed for 75 days as part of efforts to improve a railway tunnel near Xay Railway Station.

According to Lao News Agency, the closure is linked to the Laos-China Railway Transport Strengthening Project. This decision followed a joint site inspection on October 20, 2026, which was led by Anousone Kittivong, Deputy Director of the Oudomxay Department of Public Works and Transport, alongside provincial and district officials and representatives from China Railway Construction Project No. 15 Limited.

During the closure period, motorists will be redirected via a designated detour in the Xay Railway Station area. Authorities plan to install traffic signs and safety equipment, assign personnel to guide vehicles, and enhance rough sections of the alternative route before the closure begins. Additional measures include installing warning lights and spraying water to minimize dust.

The project aims to reinforce the railway tunnel with concrete and construct a drainage system to prevent waterlogging, thus improving road conditions year-round. The closure will be implemented after all preparations and safety inspections are completed According to project schedule.

Motorists are advised to adhere to traffic signs, follow instructions from local authorities, and use the designated detour throughout the construction period.
