Vientiane:Sikhottabong: Authorities in Sikhottabong District, Vientiane Capital, have collected 150 electric scooters that were parked without authorization, obstructing major roads and pedestrian walkways.
According to Lao News Agency, the operation took place on September 28-29 and was conducted by the Sikhottabong District Order Maintenance Committee. It was in accordance with Government Decree No. 568/Gov, dated September 16, 2021, which outlines fines and measures for road traffic violations, and Decision No. 1184/VC, dated November 20, 2017, concerning urban and suburban order in Vientiane.
The confiscated scooters have been taken to the Sikhottabong District Administration Office for storage. Business owners and operators are required to obtain authorization documents from the relevant authorities as per laws and regulations to retrieve their scooters.
The operation was part of an initiative led by Vientiane Capital authorities to address the issue of electric scooters being used and parked without official authorization from the relevant sectors.
