3rd Plenary Session of Lao Party Central Committee Focuses on Development and Poverty Reduction

Vientiane: The meeting was attended by members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and full and alternate members of the Party Central Committee. The session is reviewing major issues including the implementation of Party leadership during the first half of 2026 and plans for the remainder of the year, along with assessments of the country's socio-economic development, budget, and monetary plans.

According to Lao News Agency, delegates are also discussing a draft report on grassroots political development, rural development, poverty eradication, and implementation of the Party's 'Three Builds' directive. Rural development and poverty reduction are expected to be elevated as a national agenda priority.

The plenary session will also deliberate on a draft resolution aimed at combating abuse of power, corruption, negative practices, and extravagance within the state and society. In addition, participants received important Party documents, including Secretariat Order No. 11/SC dated May 7, 2026, concerning stronger Party leadership over mining management and the prevention of negative impacts related to natural resources.

In his opening remarks, President Thongloun stressed that national development and improving people's living standards remain the Party's historic mission in the new era. He emphasized that development must be sustainable, resource-efficient, and people-centered, while ensuring that citizens benefit fairly from economic growth. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening grassroots political foundations and prioritizing rural development.

President Thongloun urged Party members to enhance political responsibility, contribute constructive opinions, and help refine policies to ensure successful implementation of the goals set by the 12th Party Congress.
