Laos, Vietnam Strengthen Media Cooperation

Vientiane: The Lao delegation was led by Vansy Khuamoua, Deputy Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Party Central Committee, while the Vietnamese side was headed by Le Thi Phuong Thanh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam. During the meeting, both sides exchanged updates on their recent activities and reviewed cooperation in journalism, media, and information work. According to Lao News Agency, the Lao side briefed the Vietnamese delegation on the restructuring of the media sector, including the transfer of journalism and media responsibilities to the direct supervision of the Commission for Information and Education of the Party Central Committee. The restructuring encompasses key state media organizations, including Lao News Agency, Lao National Television, Lao National Radio, Vientianetime newspaper, and Pasaxon Newspaper. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening media cooperation, including coordination on information coverage during high-level v isits and major national events. Vietnam also expressed readiness to support Laos through training programs in multimedia production, digital media, artificial intelligence applications in media, foreign information work, and media management. On the occasion, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on journalism cooperation for the 2026-2030 period.
