WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ‘Opera Italiana is in the Air’, the project of Maestro Alvise Casellati, returned to Washington on Thursday for a new event at the Lincoln Memorial. The free concert, themed ‘Peace on Earth: The Art of Nature’, once again aimed to make the beauty of Opera accessible and enjoyable by all. Headlining the event, tenor Michael Fabiano, together with bass George Andguladze and soprano Lydia Grindatto. “Culture and music have the power to bring people together. On this highly symbolic day, this event contains important ingredients for peace and we are excited to bring them to the nation’s capital,” says Casellati, referring to the International Day of Peace which is celebrated on September 21. The concert was opened by the performance of Verdi’s Hymn of the Nations, written for the International Exhibition in London in 1862. The program also included the performance of ‘All Around Earth’, a composition by eleven-year-old Isaac Thomas, a young talent from the Juilliard School in New York. “We bring together very talented young people together with very established professionals, in this case the orchestra is almost entirely made up of members of the Washington National Opera,” says Casellati. At the concert The Italian ambassador to Washington, Mariangela Zappia, was also present. “It is a symbolic concert,” said Zappia, recalling that in recent days peace in Ukraine has been discussed during the UN General Assembly, and that the concert was held on the same day that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was visiting Washington. “We don’t want to hear the sound of war, but the sound of music,” Zappia said. Alvise Casellati is the founder and musical director of Opera Italiana is in the Air, an organization he created in 2017, six years after abandoning his career as a lawyer to follow his dream: connecting new and diverse audiences to bring Italian Opera back to the context to which it belongs: pop music. Today he lives his “dream” of making the beauty of Italian opera known and accessible to all. Since his debut in Italy at the Venice Opera House in 2011, he has worked with hundreds of artists, dozens of theatres, orchestras and music festivals around the world. “Opera has been popular for 425 years, but in recent years it has been perceived as music for the elites. It is not. It is more relevant than ever to today’s audiences and we want to help a broader, younger audience understand it and fall in love with it, as many others have done in the past,” says Casellati. The concert program saw the performance of compositions by Verdi, Mozart, Beethoven, Puccini and Rossini.

Forbes Social Awards: Pomilio Blumm shines as top-notch agency

The Forbes Social Awards showcased the significant influence of institutional communication on both society and the economy. This influence has grown even more pronounced in our current intricate socio-political landscape, marked by global concerns like climate change. In this context, institutional communication faces an escalating threat of disinformation and false information. The Four Seasons hotel in Florence provided the setting for the awards ceremony, where Alessandro Rossi, the director of Forbes Italia, stressed the crucial role of effective communication within the intricate fabric of the European Union (EU). Comprising 27 Member States, each with its distinct language, culture, and history, the EU’s diversity is indeed its asset, but it can also present challenges if not managed prudently. Alessandro Rossi pointed out, “Institutional communication serves as a bridge that transcends linguistic and cultural barriers within the union. Through multilingual communication, it ensures that our messages reach every corner of the EU, promoting a sense of inclusivity and shared identity.”

During the ceremony, numerous recipients of awards were associated with campaigns overseen by the communication agency Pomilio Blumm. Thanks to its narrative strategies, this Italian agency has shown remarkable adaptability in navigating the evolving international landscape of the EU. Recognized by the Financial Times as one of the fastest-growing agencies, the company relies on advanced research centres and boasts prestigious clients such as the European Central Bank, the EU Commission, and the EU Parliament.
Additionally, as per the latest annual ranking from the International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO), Pomilio Blumm has emerged as the world’s leading communication firm in terms of growth rate*. The institutional communication agency topped the ICCO’s list, which includes 40 associations representing 82 countries globally and over 3,000 public relations firms. According to PRovoke, the specialized website that published ICCO’s data, Pomilio Blumm achieved these results by securing international contracts successfully, resulting in highly positive financial outcomes.

Among the recognized institutions, the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG-JUST) garnered acclaim for its Gender Stereotype communication campaign, aiming to raise awareness about the societal consequences of gender stereotypes and foster democratic values and cultural sensitivity among European citizens.

The European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) received recognition for its innovative Normandy Index, a data visualisation service that offers a comprehensive perspective on the world, regions, and countries in the context of peace and threats defined in the Global Strategy. This tool assists EU policymakers in crafting targeted strategies for external action.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) was honoured for its project designed to enhance the separation of recyclable materials in municipal solid waste in four regions: Duboko, Pirot, Srem-Mačva, and Pančevo.

Rome’s Luiss Guido Carli University was acknowledged for its ambitious internationalisation project, showcasing how Italian universities have the potential to rank among Europe’s most esteemed institutions while embracing their venerable heritage and adopting a forward-looking approach.

The ceremony featured two distinguished guests. First, the director of the Galleria dell’Accademia, Cecilie Hollberg, celebrated Michelangelo’s David, commemorating its 150th anniversary at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence awarded for its communication. She emphasised the work’s status as a symbol of the Italian Renaissance and highlighted efforts to modernize the gallery and protect the David from commercial exploitation, allowing its iconic, pure, and potent message to resonate with the world. Following her address, Andrew Spannaus, Chairman of the Milan Foreign Press Association, underscored the crucial role of basing news reporting on data and evidence, especially in a digital world dominated by infotainment, where content verification often takes a back seat.

2.26K out of 2.8K drug-affected barangays in Bicol cleared by PDEA

Nearly 2,300 villages in the six provinces of the Bicol region have been cleared of illegal drugs by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) said Friday.

Out of the 2,793 affected barangays, 2,264 have been declared drug-cleared as of Sept. 18, with the 529 remaining villages still undergoing assessment by the authorities, PRO-5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib said in an interview.

“These barangays received a certification declaring them drug-cleared. They underwent a series of monitoring and evaluation,” she said.

Based on PRO-5 records, from Jan. 1 to Sept. 18, a total of 755 suspects were arrested during 714 anti-illegal drugs operations that led to the confiscation of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of PHP67.7 million, including 731.21 grams of marijuana and 10,063.32 grams of shabu.

Naga City reported the highest amount of confiscated illegal substances, valued at PHP 27.9 million; followed by Masbate (PHP12.7 million); Camarines Sur (PHP12.4 million); Albay (PHP6.4 million); Camarines Norte (PHP6.3 million); Catanduanes (PHP728,561.88); and Sorsogon (PHP16,705.69).

Naga City is an independent component city located in Camarines Sur province.

Calubaquib said as part of the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga ay Ayawan” (BIDA) initiative, the PRO-5, in collaboration with other government agencies, completed the program and assisted in the rehabilitation of individuals engaged in drug sale and use.

“A total of 42,358 individuals participated in the program, with 9,742 individuals graduating from the Recovery and Wellness Program and 32,616 individuals benefiting from the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program,” she said.

Calubaquib said PRO-5’s efforts against drugs would continue to attain a secure and drug-free environment for Bicolanos.
