Vientiane: The Vientiane Capital People's Council is set to hold its 1st Extraordinary Session of the second legislature to deliberate on a proposal to establish a sub-district in Xaythany District. The session, which aims to decentralize local administration, is scheduled for May 22, 2025.
According to Lao News Agency, the announcement was made at a press conference on May 19, 2025. The primary agenda for the session is to review and potentially approve the proposal, which seeks to improve local governance by creating a new administrative unit in Xaythany.
In preparation for the upcoming session, the Council has urged all Party and State organizations, mass organizations, civil servants, soldiers, police officers, and especially residents of Vientiane Capital to stay informed by following updates provided through national television and print media.
To foster public involvement, the Council has established a unit dedicated to collecting feedback and suggestions from the community. Citizens are encouraged to submit their input via hotline number 1156 or through telephone numbers 021 260251 and 021 260242. The Council is already accepting public comments.
This initiative signifies a move towards enhancing local governance and increasing public participation in administrative reforms.
