Manila: Defending champion University of Santo Tomas repeated over Far Eastern University, 70-54, to secure the second semifinal berth in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 women's basketball at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday. Ana Mae Tacatac scored all her 12 points from the three-point line to lead UST to a 9-1 record behind first semifinalist National University (9-0). The Growling Tigresses also beat the Lady Tamaraws in the first round, 66-57. Kent Pastrana contributed 11 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and one steal; while Amby Ambos had 10 points and 10 rebounds for UST. FEU fell to a fifth-best 2-7, its semifinal hopes now dimmer. Karylle Sierba chipped in nine points while CJ Maglupay and Brigette Santos added eight points each for UST. The Growling Tigresses are in the Final Four for the sixth consecutive season. 'All pr ograms are not overnight. You have to make the puzzle right, the right pieces of players, right recruitment and the UST program is more on player development rather than recruitment program,' Haydee Ong, who took over as UST head coach in 2016, said. 'We wanted that when we recruit a player, it's not always the best players, but always the right one for our program,' she added. Joann Nagma paced FEU with 11 points and four rebounds, while Yvette Villanueva added 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. In the first game, Adamson slipped past University of the Philippines, 57-54, to fortify its hold on third place at 7-3. Source: Philippines News Agency
