UST beats MGCNL Academy; remains unbeaten in NextGen Basketball League


Manila: University of Santo Tomas clobbered MGC New Life (MGCNL) Christian Academy, 134-45, to keep its immaculate record in the Under-19 Next Generation Basketball League (NGBL) at the Tanduay gym in Manila last Sunday.

Ron Jay Catalan had 23 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals as the Manu Iñigo-mentored Tiger Cubs collected their fourth straight win to stay on top of Group B.

‘In the second quarter, coach told us to defend and just stick to our system,” Catalan said.

Adrian Tan scored 13 points, while Adam Uy and Trey Chua chipped in 11 points apiece for MGC, which is winless in four outings.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila defeated La Salle-Greenhills, 85-83.

Ethan Kaw finished with 14 points, two rebounds, and one block as the Blue Eaglets improved their slate to 2-2 for third place in Group A.

tion paid off,’ said Kaw, who scored four straight points that allowed Ateneo to regain the upperhand at 82-80 after LSGH grab the lead at 79-78 on Guillian Quines’s mid-range jumper, 1:20 remaining.

The Greenies rallied back at 84-83 on Gian Gomez’s triple, but Ateneo played steadier enroute to victory.

James Ison had 19 points, while Quines and Arle Podador contributed 16 points each for LSGH, which absorbed its third loss against one win.

The other game saw Far Eastern University-Diliman demolishing Lyceum of the Philippines University, 90-64. Both gained a share of third place with Letran in Group B at 2-2.

Mico Pascual topscored with 15 points and six rebounds for the Baby Tamaraws, while Gemel Julio produced 19 points on top of six rebounds for the Baby Pirates.
