U.S. Continues Commitment to a Landmine-Free Cambodia

The United States (U.S.) has continued its commitment to support Cambodia’s landmine-free goal by increasing its financial support to the Kingdom’s mine action efforts for 2024.

The continued commitment was highlighted by Political Chief Andrew Leyva during the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action event, hosted by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) in Siem Reap province last week.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, as Cambodia continues its year-long Chairmanship of the ‘Mine Ban Treaty,’ the U.S. will continue to support the Kingdom’s efforts to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance, including by increasing its support to US$12 million for 2024.

‘The United States is proud to be one of Cambodia’s largest demining partners. Our joint commitment is on full display throughout the country, from our work with international mine clearance NGOs to our historic engagement and successful partnership with Cambodia Mine Action Centre (CMAC) cle
arance teams,’ said Mr. Andrew Leyva.
