Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States expects a "complete ceasefire on all fronts," urging all parties in the Middle East to adhere to their commitments. This announcement comes as part of efforts to foster peace in the region, particularly focusing on areas of ongoing conflict such as Lebanon, where tensions with Hezbollah and Israel persist. According to Lao News Agency, Trump emphasized the United States' commitment to peace and encouraged regional actors to support the negotiation process. He conveyed this message through a post on Truth Social, stating, "We expect a complete ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Israel." Trump's message underscores the importance of halting military actions to allow diplomatic negotiations to proceed smoothly. In a significant move towards resolving longstanding issues, Trump signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran in France on Wednesday. This MoU marks the commencement of a 60-day negotiatio n period, beginning Thursday, aimed at achieving a final agreement. The document calls for the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon." However, challenges remain as Israel has expressed its intention not to withdraw its forces from Lebanon, highlighting the complexities involved in achieving a comprehensive ceasefire. The ongoing negotiations will be crucial in determining whether these efforts will lead to sustained peace in the region.
