Vientiane: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has received a message of condolences from Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra following the passing of General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and former State President.
According to Lao News Agency, in her message dated April 4, Prime Minister Paetongtarn expressed sympathy to Prime Minister Sonexay, the Siphandone family, and the Lao people. She highlighted General Khamtay’s role in Laos’ national development and his contribution to fostering enduring ties between Thailand and Laos over the past seven decades.
She noted that General Khamtay’s official visit to Thailand in February 1992 was a milestone in bilateral relations and laid a foundation for the cooperation that continues today.
On April 3, Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane also received a message of condolences from his Thai counterpart, Maris Sangiampongsa.
