Slight increase seen in agri-commodities during holiday season

Prices of agri-commodities, meat, and poultry may increase slightly during the holiday season, the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11) said Tuesday.

In a press briefing, DA-11 price monitoring lead Agnes Cecilia Roble said there will be an expected increase of around PHP5 to PHP10 on farm commodities.

‘Our spices, especially onion which is very useful during the holiday season, there will also be a slight increase,’ she said.

While agricultural commodity prices are projected to have a slight increase, Roble clarified it does not mean that prices of all basic commodities will soar during the Christmas season.

Factors affecting the price increase include high fuel costs, and cases of African swine fever and avian influenza even if they happen in other regions, she said.

‘The price increase this year is not that critical as compared to last year,’ Roble said, adding that a price increase is also expected in fruits.

However, she assured sufficient food supply during the holidays.
