Proposed wind turbine project to boost power generation in N. Samar

TACLOBAN: Northern Samar province welcomes the anticipated entry of Envision Energy’s Wind Turbine Project in Allen town, the sixth renewable energy venture in the province.

John Allen Berbon, head of the provincial economic development and investment promotion office (PEDIPO), said representatives of Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, visited the provincial capitol on Monday to discuss the installation of wind turbines in Allen.

The project, which involves installing about 30 wind turbines capable of generating apporximately 200 megawatts (MW), is set to utilize between 100 hectares and 500 hectares of land. The plan is to complete the project by 2027.

‘Should this initiative come to fruition, it will mark a historic milestone as the first wind turbine project by Envision Energy in the Philippines,’ Berbon said in a phone interview Tuesday.

Envision Energy has conducted feasibility studies in the province, according to the official. The firm, however, has yet to disclose its total inve
stment for the project.

Berbon said Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan has been trying to lure wind energy projects, citing studies that show that wind speeds in key areas of Northern Samar have greater potential compared to existing wind turbine projects in other provinces.

Envision Energy also discussed the possibility of establishing sustainable car battery factories in the province.

‘The provincial government is dedicated to attracting more investors, recognizing the potential for job creation and economic stimulation that such investments would bring,’ he added.

Envision’s Onshore Wind Farm adds to the five ongoing and proposed green energy ventures in Northern Samar.

These are the Lihangin’s Onshore Wind Farm in San Isidro town, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Offshore Wind Farm stretching from Bobon to Laoang towns, EBTech’s Hydroelectric Power Plant in San Isidro town, Ranyag Energy’s Solar Farm in Bobon town, and the Energies PH’s Ocean (Tidal) power project in the island town of Capul.

L
ihangin’s San Isidro Farm is scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025, while Copenhagen’s Offshore Wind Farm is preparing their light detection and ranging equipment to examine the surface of the Earth.

The remaining projects are in the pre-development stage, progressing towards implementation.
