PNP honors hero cops in Pampanga anti-kidnap ops

MANILA: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has honored two police officers for their bravery during an operation that resulted in the rescue of two Chinese kidnap victims and two kidnappers in Pampanga province.

S/Sgt. Nelson Santiago and Chief M/Sgt. Eden Accad were wounded in the encounter that ensued during the Aug. 3 rescue operation by the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group in Angeles City.

Santiago, however, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center (AUFMC).

Marbil awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP Heroism Medal) to Santiago during his visit to the late officer’s wake on Tuesday.

The PNP chief also extended financial assistance to the police officer’s bereaved family.

“The bravery and sacrifice of our officers are beyond measure. We honor their courage and will ensure that justice is served,” Marbil said in a statement on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, Marbil visited Accad at the AUFMC to extend support and ensure that the pol
ice officer is receiving the best possible care.

Marbil also awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan and Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Personnel Medal) to Accad and provided him with financial assistance.

‘We will continue to uphold our commitment to ensuring public safety and security while supporting the families of our personnel who risk their lives in the line of duty,’ Marbil said.
