PM Urges Pung Nanoun Subdistrict to Strengthen Development and Livelihoods

Vientiane: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Pung Nanoun Subdistrict, Houayxay District, Bokeo Province, on August 19, 2026, and provided guidance on strengthening local administration, security and socio-economic development.

According to Lao News Agency, Pung Nanoun was established on May 20, 2026, and is one of six subdistricts in Houayxay District. It comprises 19 villages with 3,453 households and a population of 19,351. Agriculture and livestock farming are the main livelihoods, supported by trade and services.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for stronger political and ideological education, national defence and public security, and solidarity among ethnic groups. He urged local authorities to translate the policy of building an independent and self-reliant economy into practical grassroots programmes based on local potential, with clear targets and responsibilities.

He highlighted the importance of road maintenance, proper land-use management, stronger Party and State organisational structures, rural development, poverty reduction, and improved training for officials and local residents.

Prime Minister Sonexay called for joint efforts to make Pung Nanoun a stable and prosperous locality where people's livelihoods continue to improve. He also provided financial support for subdistrict operations and visited the rubber processing factory of Lao-China Xingsheng Sole Co., Ltd. in Namdua Village.
