PM Delivers Relief Aid to Flood-Affected Residents in Champasak

Pakse: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited flood-affected areas in Khan Keung Subdistrict, Pakse City, Champasak Province, on August 22, 2026, where he met residents and delivered emergency relief supplies. According to Lao News Agency, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone's visit to the flood-stricken region highlighted the government's commitment to assisting affected communities. Khamsavat Soutthavong, President of the Khan Keung Subdistrict Administration Committee, reported that the flooding impacted 637 households and 3,104 people across 13 villages. The natural disaster damaged 137 hectares of rice fields, 38 fishponds, five roads, and one temple. As a result, fourteen families, comprising 60 individuals, have been relocated to temporary shelters. The Prime Minister commended local authorities for their swift action in response to the flooding. He emphasized the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness measures, maintaining sanitation in shelters, and closely monitoring the health of the displaced residents. Furthermore, the Prime Minister urged continuous monitoring of weather conditions and water levels, protection of property, and enhancing community solidarity to manage potential future risks. The visit concluded with Prime Minister Sonexay providing financial assistance, consumer goods, medicines, and medical equipment to the Champasak Provincial Administration. These resources aim to support affected families and expedite recovery efforts in the region.
