PH road cycling team completes training camp in Zambales


MANILA: Members of the Philippine road cycling team have completed a five-day training camp in Zambales in preparation for the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) Championships for Road scheduled to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from June 5 to 12.

A total of 35 cyclists joined the camp hosted by Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane and supported by 2nd District Rep. Doris ‘Nanay Bing’ Maniquiz, at the Balin Sambali in Iba and Camp Kainomayan in Botolan.

‘The training camp is important not only to keep the athletes in harness for the Asian championships but for them to bond together further as a national team,’ Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said on Wednesday.

Tolentino, who also heads PhilCycling, will receive the Merit Award for his exemplary contribution to the sport’s growth in Asia during the ACC Congress on June 6.

The national team is composed of riders from the Philippine Navy – Standard Insurance, 7-Eleven-Cliqq by Roadbike Philippines, Excellent, D’Reyna, and Go-fo
r-Gold.

Reinhard Gorantes is the head coach with Virgilio Espiritu, Marita Lucas, Mark John Lexer Galedo, and Joey de los Reyes as deputies.
