Manila: The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and PCSO authorized agent corporations, initiated an aid caravan on Sunday aimed at delivering relief and medical assistance to communities affected by recent natural disasters in Cebu and Masbate.
According to Philippines News Agency, the caravan consisted of 12 patient transport vehicles (PTVs), five dump trucks, and six wing vans, each carrying essential medical supplies, disaster response equipment, and relief goods. The aid caravan was equipped with at least 18,000 "charitimba" (charity pails), 4,000 evacuation kits, 664 boxes of medicines, and nearly 8,000 additional relief items, collectively valued at approximately PHP50 million.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles remarked that the effort transcends mere numbers, serving as an embodiment of compassion and unity. He emphasized that each relief pack symbolizes the nation's collective empathy and support for the families affected by the disasters.
The caravan destined for Cebu comprised three PCSO buses, 11 PTVs, and five MMDA dump trucks. This team will travel by land to assist communities impacted by the earthquake. Meanwhile, the Masbate team, consisting of six wing vans and one PTV, is tasked with delivering aid to the remote islands of Burias and Ticao in Masbate.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, the PCSO, LRTA, and MMDA highlighted that the initiative serves as a reaffirmation of their shared responsibility to uplift communities struck by tragedy. They underscored that bayanihan, or communal unity, remains central to every government response. The statement further noted that the Filipino spirit demonstrates that no challenge is insurmountable when the community unites, and every act of kindness contributes to strengthening the nation.
