Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is advancing his industrial and energy modernization agenda by securing new high-technology and clean energy projects from leading South Korean conglomerates during the 2025 APEC Summit.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos participated in a high-level meeting with Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Ltd. (SEMCO) where he witnessed the signing of a Supplemental Agreement between the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. (SEMPHIL). This agreement will enable a PHP50.7 billion expansion of Samsung’s manufacturing operations in Calamba, Laguna, anticipated to create over 3,000 jobs for Filipino engineers and technicians in the high-technology sector.
Additionally, President Marcos engaged with executives from DL Group, whose subsidiary DL E and C is collaborating with Meralco to investigate small modular reactor (SMR) projects in the Philippines. These compact nuclear plants are designed to produce clean, stable energy efficiently, requiring less land and offering shorter construction timelines compared to traditional facilities.
SEMCO’s expansion plans align with President Marcos’s vision of transforming the Philippines into a regional hub for manufacturing and innovation.
