Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday conveyed his appreciation to the government of Hungary for providing humanitarian aid to the victims of recent earthquakes in the Philippines. Marcos expressed his gratitude during a meeting with National Assembly of Hungary Speaker K¶v©r L¡szl³ at Malaca±an Palace.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippines has experienced a series of strong earthquakes recently due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire. On October 10, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, followed by a 6.8 magnitude tremor, forming what experts call a ‘doublet’ earthquake. Earlier, on September 30, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit off Bogo, Cebu, leading to significant destruction in Cebu and nearby areas.
K¶v©r is visiting the Philippines from October 14 to 17. His itinerary includes a visit to Cebu, where he will meet Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Hungarian Honorary Consul in Cebu Enrilen Joy Benedicto-Tan. K¶v©r will also attend the Hungarian National Day reception as a guest of honor and meet with Senate President Vicente Sotto III and members of the Senate’s Philippines-Hungary Friendship Group.
The Philippines and Hungary established formal diplomatic relations on September 28, 1973. Hungary is home to around 11,200 Filipinos working in the country.
