P224-M illegal drugs seized, 2.6K suspects nabbed in Bicol since 2022


LEGAZPI: The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) seized some PHP224 million worth of illegal drugs and nabbed 2,609 suspects from drug operations under the Marcos administration for the past two years.

During Tuesday’s Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas briefing held at Camp Simeon Ola here, PRO5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said from July 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024, they conducted 2,302 operations targeting illegal drug activities in six provinces of the region.

“These extensive efforts underscored the unit’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and dismantling drug networks in the region,” he said.

Dizon said 31,432.75 grams of marijuana, 20,803.87 grams of shabu, and 300.48 grams of cocaine were intercepted before they reached the market.

PRO5 also confiscated 1,717 assorted firearms from 638 individuals during 2,829 operations against unregistered firearms through the “Oplan Katok and Oplan Boga” programs.

PRO5 likewise captured 2,107 most wanted persons and 9,013 other wanted persons.

“These e
fforts contributed to reducing crime rates and ensuring that justice is served for the victims of these criminals,” Dizon said.

Meanwhile, efforts to curb insurgency resulted in the arrest of 573 rebels, surrender of 1,214, and death of 128, along with the seizure of 316 firearms of various calibers and 349 explosives.

“The surrendered individuals were given support and assistance through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, designed to facilitate the reintegration of former rebels into mainstream society by providing them with various forms of aid, including financial assistance, livelihood training, and educational opportunities,” he said.

The regional police force similarly conducted 1,963 operations against illegal gambling in 2023, resulting in the apprehension of 5,524 violators and the confiscation of PHP2.3 million in bet money.

A total of 1,718 cases were filed in court, Dizon said.

He added that police visibility was also increased with 2.1 million foot-and-beat pa
trols and 409,455 mobile patrols conducted.

“Through proactive and responsive policing, we ensure that our services are accessible to everyone, anytime and anywhere,” he said.
